2019 Jeep Cherokee vs. 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you’re in Corpus Christi or Kingsville and in need of a reliable, feature-heavy SUV to accommodate your growing family, then look to Jeep. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee and 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee are both wonderful, family-friendly SUVs that retain the power Jeep is known for while including all the amenities your family could want. But which is the right one for you? Continue below and check out Allen Samuels CDJR Aransas Pass’s comparison of these two awesome SUVs with in-depth looks at price, interior features, and performance. Once you’ve chosen the one for you, take a look at our available Cherokee and Grand Cherokee inventories and head down to our Aransas Pass dealership for a closer look!

Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee: Trims & Pricing

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is the more affordable of the two, coming in at $24,195 in its starting trim. It is also available in seven trims: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk®, Trailhawk® Elite (which is only 4WD-capable), and Overland.

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in with 12 trims, with its base-level starting at $31,695. Here are all of its configurations:Laredo, Laredo E, Upland, Altitude, Limited, Limited X, Trailhawk®, Overland, High Altitude, Summit, SRT®, and Trackhawk®.

The standard drivetrain in either vehicle is front-wheel drive, although drivers in Port Lavaca may look for more control and opt for a four-wheel drive system, like the Jeep Active Drive I.

Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee: Interior Space & Features

In terms of interior features, both of these Jeep SUVs are fairly comparable. Both come standard with Uconnect®-enabled 7-inch touchscreen systems, six-speaker audio systems, and a 60/40-split-folding rear seat. The major difference, of course, as guaranteed by its name, is that the Grand Cherokee offers more room for Beeville drivers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers 68.3 cubic feet whereas the Cherokee only provides drivers with 54.9 cubic feet.

Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee: Performance & Towing

Another area where the two Cherokee models really differ is in their performance. Check out the specs below:

  • 2019 Jeep Cherokee: For the starter engine on the Jeep Cherokee, drivers are given a standard 2.4L 180-hp 4-cylinder engine. They can also opt for higher-tier engines including a 2.0L 270-hp turbo 4-cylinder engine and a 3.2L 271-hp V6 engine. All of these are given a 9-speed automatic transmission, and the towing capacity for the vehicle ranges from 2,000 to 4,500 pounds.
  • 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee: For the Jeep Grand Cherokee, drivers get a much more powerful standard engine, the 3.6L 295-hp V6. Some other options include a 3.0L 240-hp turbo-diesel V6 and a high-end 6.2L 707-hp V8 engine. For this vehicle, 8-speed automatic transmissions are standard, and the maximum towing capacity nearly doubles the Jeep Cherokee at 7,200 pounds.
